Goldie is all about the Brady Bunch. It started when I discovered that my girls had never met Mike and Carol, I immediately added Season 1 to our Netflix account. How could I know what a monster I was creating? Goldie, who would never watch anything other than Signing Time, sat for 1 1/2 hours watching the blended family bliss. The only word out of her mouth the entire time was "Alice". Everytime the credits roll she yells "Alice" and hits her head (ASL for "lettuce"). She began requesting "Alice" so much that I went out and bought her Season 1 and 2 for her birthday just so Netflix could have their DVD back. Finally, something we can all watch together.
Is it painfully obvious that we don't have cable or a dish?
And if you think Alice = lettuce is cute.
Bicycle = popsicle is almost as amusing.
Her sisters think the best part is when she starts dropping the "L" in Alice. Then you get A iss. So, its best to put her show on right away before she starts "swearing" at you!
I've learned that you can't literally live on love, but you can certainly live for it. There is a lot of love in our home with 1 mom, 4 kids, 2 cats and 1 extra chromosome.

Fall Pictures
My 7 yo grabbed Goldie and the camera and took these pictures. She is so thoughtful and know how I love to take fall pictures of them. I think they turned out much better than the ones I tried to take of the 3 of them.

Easter 2009 (more pictures)
My mom with the girls.
ETA: I have to brag about the thrifty Easter dress purchase. My total out of pocket for all three was $20.50! Goldie's and Mini Me's were purchased at a consignment sale. Swatcho's was bought at the mall with a gift card that happened to be good at the store with the best price on said dress. I wish shoes were as cheap to come by. Mini Me needed new shoes, but Goldie wore her tennis shoes. They're new enough that they still look nice and they support her feet really well.

One got glasses and one had a birthday!
Swatcho got glasses last week.

This baby turned 10!

She wanted to celebrate by going to see the horse exhibit at the museum and having stuffed grape leaves for dinner.

We rolled out 70 of those sought after, sour creations. Well, the Birthday girl didn't start rolling until the end was in sight and there's no pic of the finished meal because we ate them. Quickly. Goldie has eaten them before, but wasn't in the mood this time.
Goldie has a Birthday and an eye Dr. appt this week. This is with a new doc and I'm hoping he can answer some questions we've had about Goldie's vision and nystagmus.

This is her after the museum. Yes, she is still rear facing. Her sisters are way more entertaining than the back of my head. Plus, I'm clinging to every last morsel of her babyhood.

Another Point of View
After reading Lisa's post at Finnian's Journey, I wanted to share a story.
Mini Me celebrated her 8th birthday just days before Goldie was born. We've talked about how babies are made and she had a basic understanding of genes. Like she has my brown eyes and her sister has her dad's blue eyes. I was sorting throught a pile of dirty dishes while she sat across from me at the bar. She asked me if her children would have Down syndrome. I immediately began to reassure her. "No honey, they probably won't. Goldie's Down syndrome is not hereditary. It just happens some times. Only 1 in 800 babies has it."
Her reply: "Well, I can always adopt a baby with Down syndrome, right?"
At that moment I felt like she was raising me.

I just have to add, my SIL took this picture. It is such a fluke. Goldie was 8 wks old and wasn't able to maintain eye contact or focus on anything. (She has nystagmus) So, this is the only picture from that time where she is actually looking at the camera.

Sisters Rock
Its moments like these I wish I had a sister growing up. I never felt that way until I had kids. I often think how nice it would be to if I could pick up the phone and have a sister to call. I've had some friends that come close though. And my brother is the best so I'm lucky there, too. I hope my girls always stay close.
