IFSP - how it went

Thank-you for your prayers. I was able to maintain my composure, stay focused and add some goals for Goldie despite a shaky beginning and rocky ending to the meeting.

My decision to switch to another service co-ordinator has been made very easily after this morning. The SC showed up without Goldie's PT eval. I know this could have been a mistake on the part of the PT, but the SC's job is to get that figured out BEFORE the IFSP not during or after. Then at the very end she mentioned that Goldie's cognitive eval hadn't been scored and tried to blame it on the VT. I did not let her pass the buck. It is her job to make sure it gets scored BEFORE the IFSP. I called the VT afterwards and she will be making sure it is completed, correctly.

Other highlights from the meeting would be her telling me she hopes Goldie doesn't qualify for waiver because that would be a lot of paperwork for her. She also didn't discuss transition like they are supposed to. I'm actually o.k. with that because I don't want to talk to her about it anyway! The brief conversation we did have led me to believe she doesn't know what our different options are.

I'm going to request a new SC and a review of Goldie's file to make sure everything is in order. Just curious, do you receive copies of your child's evaluation scores?

I just received Finn's IFSP in today's mail (his eval was done back in February!), and yes, I did receive his eval. scores.

I'm sorry the meeting didn't go off without a hitch, but good for you for seeking out a new SC.

You should have copies of everything. With one of our coordinators we would get them ion the mail. with the other, we wouldn't let her leave our house until we made copies ourselves. It sounds like you're making a good decision to switch. Good luck!!

Yes, you should get copies of everything. Sorry that it didn't go as well as it could have. I have been there. We actually had to separate ourselves from the county program and do everything privately after many attempts to get services for Lila. It has been well worth it! Way to go for not giving in- I don't believe in creating problems or arguing for no reason but I do believe in fighting for our kids- to get what they deserve!

Yep, we always got copies and eval. scores. I'm so, sorry you have to even deal with getting a new SC. But, good for you for standing up for yourself and Goldie!! It has taken me a long time to learn how to do that.

Ooh, that makes my blood boil! Good for you to switch to a new SC. As if she ever coordinated anything! That's crazy that she'd say such a thing about the waiver! Out with her!

Yes, as everyone else said, you should have hard copies of all evals and documents regarding Goldie.

I think I already mentioned keeping hard copies of blood lab work too.
